Artist Airplay Advisors Provide Self-Released Artists and Digital Labels with Radio Service

Technology makes more Artist-releases possible, California start-up promotes them to Radio

Monterey, CA (Billboard Publicity Wire) September 15, 2008 -- Internet radio veteran David Bean and musician/concert promoter J.P. "Phil" Mosoff announce the opening of Artist Airplay Advisors, a service for Digital Labels and Recording Artists. The technology industry has given more musicians the ability to self-release their recordings and for digital labels to distribute music online, creating a situation where good music that might work well for radio programming is released by artists through the Internet and not always serviced to broadcast Music Directors. Artist Airplay Advisors strives to inform musicians about all formats of radio and to bring their music to broadcast radio when appropriate, backed by experience in radio programming, radio promotion, concert & club booking, artist management, and Grammy membership (producers & engineers wing). The company's goal is for Singer/Songwriters and Bands to achieve entry-level airplay that often starts at Triple-A Radio (Adult Album Alternative), Americana (Folk Rock), College (Modern Rock), or National Public Radio (NPR).

Artist Airplay Advisors stepped up to this challenge by expanding beyond the founders previous Internet Radio success with a full build broadcast radio reporter database, developed while promoting Australian singer/songwriter Jackie Bristow's "Crazy Love" CD during June and July for BeanBag1.com/Craving Records, which was programmed on Starbucks radio by PlayNetwork. The expanded Artist Airplay Advisors radio promotion company will launch on September 15 with the addition of two new releases. The first is the self-titled "Badlands Trio" CD on indie Five Points Records, in Jacksonville, Florida, which is a creative achievement that breaks every rule for a debut artist. The second CD is from veteran rockers Roger Clyne and The Peacemakers titled "Turbo Ocho," the eighth recording on their own Tempe, Arizona based EmmaJava Recordings, featuring the single "I Speak Your Language." Clyne and his previous band, The Refreshments, are noted for writing and performing the well-known theme song from television's "King of the Hill." All three acts will be touring nationally in October and November, with Jackie Bristow appearing in Texas, Badlands Trio in Florida, and RCPM throughout the west.

Artist Airplay Advisors co-founder David Bean began as a Disc Jockey, Music Director and Program Director in FM Album Oriented Rock (AOR) radio in California, achieving #1 ratings. After 5 years in radio, he was hired by Indie label Pacific Arts Records, owned by songwriter Michael Nesmith, to promote their artists to radio. Later Bean became president of Creed Taylor's CTI Records in New York, distributed by majors and by independents during his tenure. Then he opened independent record labels and his own management and promotion company with talent ranging from modern rock artists Paul Kimble (Grant Lee Buffalo, Thom Yorke, David Gray) and P. Hux (Eels) to Triple-A/Americana format icons Jesse Colin Young (Youngbloods, Robert Plant) and New Riders of the Purple Sage. Bean was one of the first to license Masters to eMusic, iTunes, & others for digital distribution.

In 1999, David Bean was named Director of Internet Radio for OnRadio.com, and in 2000 was appointed VP of music programming for the launch of Musicmatch.com Internet Radio, which went on to rank in the Top 5 most listened to online systems as rated by Arbitron. Bean served as Business Development Director for baseBeat.com Internet Radio, placing twelve channels of music on SingaporeAirlines.com in 2007, and is currently a Program Director at Slacker.com Internet Radio in San Diego. He was asked to speak at the 2001 Gavin Radio convention introducing Internet Radio and is scheduled to speak at the upcoming Digital Hollywood conference October 27-30, 2008, in Los Angeles.

David Bean tells of being an early technology adapter, "I first placed music on the Internet as a promotion for a CD in 1996, and while 12 years later I work professionally in the Internet industry, broadcast radio airplay is still the number one media for selling concerts, CDs, and Downloads. Technology is allowing artists to control more of their own destiny, but it seems that few musicians know how radio works or the science behind it."

J.P. Mosoff is Bean's partner at Artist Airplay Advisors. J.P. is a professional musician, songwriter, and a promoter of concert and club events. He serves as Director of National Promotion, coordinating weekly telephone calls to radio stations and preparing detailed airplay reports. All the stations tracked by Artist Airplay Advisors report to the major airplay charts at R&R, FMQB, CMJ, or TripleAradio.com. Mosoff adds, "There are others who have been in business for decades, but none offer as much new Broadcast, Internet, Tour, and Distribution crossover expertise with personal attention at rates as low as Artist Airplay Advisors."
